Purple Loosestrife Biocontrol Monitoring
The Cambridge Water Department and Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation
have collaborated since 2006 on a project using beetles to control the
growth of purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), an invasive
wetland plant. During today'sprogram, participants measured and counted
stems on the Loosestrife plants that grow near Little Fresh Pond to
determine how much of an impact the beetles have had.
