Mushroom Marathon
A Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation Program
After a morning session that included a talk about fungal ecology and
a slide presentation. mycologist Lawremnce Millman led participants
on an afternoon walk to look for mushrooms on the Reservation. Larry's
enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge of mushroom facts and lore added
to our delight in finding these beautiful and sometimes strange entities.
In the top right photo Larry has ignited a birch polypore to demonstrate
that it burns - and smells - like incense.
Mushrooms observed included: Top middle photo - Crucibulum laeva
(Bird's Nest Fungus), bottom middle photo - Naematoloma aurantiacum
(no common name),
