Chicory, Cichorium intybus
(left) Common Evening Primrose, Oenothera biennis (middle) Cosmos, Cosmos bipinnatus (right)
Lusitania Meadow is awash with color by the many flowers that bloom in October. Above are three examples. Settler brought Chicory from Europe probably because the plants long taproot can be roasted and ground for a caffeine-free coffee substitute. The drops of water on the Evening Primrose are dew. The pattern created by the Cosmos petals resembles a skirt billowing in the wind.
