          Discovering Black's Nook
This secluded pond, a favorite spot for nature lovers and dogs, was
the subject of investigations during a program that gave information
about the quality of its water. Barbara Strell (left photo) used a tool
to harvest aquatic plants; Susan Agger (center photo in yellow hat)
used a sieve to collect macro-organisms; and Squizzle Plekavich (right
photo) used a special net to collect algae and zooplankton. Later, indoors,
the participants examined the specimens by eye and microscope, and identified
them using guides and keys. This Cambridge Science Festival program
was co-sponsored by Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation
