          Golden-crowned Kinglet
These tiny birds are occasionally seen at Fresh Pond in winter. They
weigh only .2 ounces, as much as 2 pennies. While awake, they are constantly
on the move, looking for minute caterpillars and other insects with
which to fuel their rapid metabolism. In cold weather, their survival
depends on getting enough food during the day for them to survive through
          the night.
