A Mountain of Mugwort
For the past two springs the beauty of the Lusitania Wet and Dry Meadow
has been a treat for visitors to Fresh Pond Reservation. This summer
an invasion of non-native Mugwort (Artemesia vulgaris) overwhelmed
the native wildflowers, shooting up 8-foot tall spikes of silvery-gray
leaves. Volunteers led by Watershed Manager's Assistant Emily Tansey
tackled the job of removing Mugwort, accumulating enormous piles of
the weeds. Here a group of weeders enjoy a laugh and a rest on one of
the weed piles.
