Buildings at Fresh Pond, Part I: Homes, Hotels, and Ice Houses
With the help of her "Paper PowerPoint," binder, Fresh Pond
Ranger Jean Rogers portrayed people, places and events in the vicinity
of Kingsley Park at Fresh Pond during the nineteenth century. At that
time, nearby buildings included the famous Fresh Pond Hotel, the Jacob
Wyeth house, and the enormous the ice houses, which were used to store
ice that was cut from the Pond for shipment around the world. Participants
asked lots of questions and came away with many answers as well as maps
and photocopies of lithographs and other illustrations.
This program was offered in cooperation with the Historic Cambridge
Collaborative, as part of this year's
Cambridge Discovery Days.
