Shadbush or Serviceberry, Amelanchier canadensis
Soft flower buds emerge from their protective bud scales in this early-flowering shrub. In June the plant will be loaded with sweet, juicy, dark purple berries that the birds will consume as fast as they can. Occasionally a lucky human arrives in time to enjoy a handful.
