Baltimore Oriole Nest
This is a leftover nest from 2008 that became visible last fall when
the cottonwood tree where it hangs lost its leaves. The birds used curling
ribbon in their construction. Perhaps the ribbon is a durable building
material, but many man-made products that litter the landscape are not.
When they are incorporated into nests they can either cause the nest
to fall apart, or harm the babies in other ways.
