Eastern Red-cedar, Juniperus virginiana
The Red-cedars on the Reservation are loaded with so many berries this
year, they appear to be blue. By spring the waxy, calorie-rich berries
will all have been eaten. Cedar waxwings, named for their fondness for
the berries, will be joined at the feast by robins, mockingbirds, goldfinches
and yellow-rumped warblers, as well as mice, rabbits, and other small
mammals.
