Baltimore Oriole, Male
The orange breast of the male Baltimore oriole in bright sunlight glows
as if illuminated from within. Both Baltimore Orioles and their darker
colored cousins, Orchard Orioles, nest at Fresh Pond. Their tightly
woven, bag-like nests can be seen swinging from the flexible ends of
the branches of cottonwood and elm trees. Birders and Pond-walkers in
May are cheered by the pretty songs of the male Baltimore Oriole. After
nesting season begins the songs disappear, replaced by the hard work
of gathering food to feed the babies.
