Stream C Restoration
Work has begun to improve drainage and remove invasive plants from the
woods along the Pond Road between the bottom of the gulf course clubhouse
hill and Little Fresh Pond. Most of the cut trees were Black Locusts
(Robinia pseudoacacia) a fast-spreading southern US native legume that,
like all legumes, is a nitrogen fixer. Although it might seem that the
addition of nitrogen ito the soil would be desirable, in the case of
native oaks, maples, and nut trees, too much nitrogen is detrimental.
