Red Maple, Acer rubrum

Red Maples wait until after the Sugar Maples have lost their splendor to show off their own dazzling leaf display. These North American natives are found growing naturally in swamps and other damp areas, but they do well when planted in upland soils such as this planting bed near the Walter J. Sullivan Water Purification Facility.
