Heart-leaved Asters, Symphyotrichum cordifolium
These asters are in flower long after other asters, including heart-leaved, have gone to seed. Perhaps the flower stalk was broken earlier in the season, and the plant is late to generate new flowers. If frost strikes before the seeds are set, they will not be viable.
