Tree Swallows at Kingsley Park

A tree swallow sits on the "front porch" (actually a wire mesh predator guard) of the box where it has a nest with eggs. Swallows have to guard their nest sites from aggressive house sparrows that will try to chase them out and build their own nests. Four boxes for tree swallows and four for smaller cavity-nesting birds were built by participants at Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation programs in 2004 and 2005.
