Black Spruce (Picea mariana)
These cones were among many produced by a small black spruce that is growing among the plantings on the lawn near the Water Department building. Black Spruce can grow in very wet soil and is sometimes called Bog Spruce. The name "Black" comes from the dark hue of the needles.
