Roger Frymeier, Volunteer Extraordinaire
Roger Frymeier pauses from his task of removing invasive
aquatic plants called water chestnuts from Black's Nook. Roger patrols
the pond in his kayak every spring to assure that the plants do not
become reestablished. He is holding a stick that is covered with masses
of aquatic animals called bryozoans, or moss animals. The translucent
jelly-like blobs are colonies consisting of many individuals. When under
water, each organism extends a featherlike organ that traps algae and
funnels the food into its mouth.
