Arrowhead, Sagittaria latifolia
Plants that like to grow with their roots under water and their leaves
and flowers in the air are called "emergent." These arrowheads,
planted near the north shore of Little Fresh Pond, are emergent plants.
When they bloom they will have white three-petaled flowers on a stalk.
Plants such as these provide habitat and shelter for wading birds like
herons and rails, and hiding places for small fish and invertebrates.
