Ferns at Fresh Pond
Some of the participants
in the Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation fern identification program
led by Don Lubin (white tee shirt) enjoy a laugh while being photographed.
Fresh Pond Reservation has just 12 species of ferns, and one of a related
plant called a Common Horsetail. Thanks to restoration efforts, at least
three native fern species have been introduced that were not already
growing naturally on the Reservation. It is possible that progeny of
the introduced plants will eventually naturalize in other areas of the
Reservation.
