          Ring-necked Ducks
These migrating ducks have stopped at Fresh Pond to rest and eat on
their way south for the winter. Ring-necks (and Ruddy Ducks) are the
early arrivers. Later come Coots, Grebes, Canvasbacks, and Mergansers.
Although the brown ring on the neck of the Ring-neck is difficult to
see, the white ring on the bill of male birds such as these is very
          visible.
