Snow Day at Lusitania Meadow Numerous small birds such as Song Sparrows, American Tree Sparrows, White -throated Sparrows, Juncos, House Finches, and Goldfinches were darting back and forth between the wetlands (top left) and the woods on the other side of the path, especially to this small evergreen, (top right). The need for speed and furtiveness was real. A Cooper's Hawk perched high in a nearby tree (bottom left) would have very much enjoyed having one of them for lunch. Snow highlights the wide-spreading branches of this old red oak (bottom right). |
