A Cambridge Science Festival Program at the Maynard Ecology Center
The Biocontrol of Purple Loosestrife
At the start of this program, Elizabeth Wylde gave a PowerPoint presentation
describing how the Cambridge Water Department and Friends of Fresh Pond
Reservation plan to use a species of Galerucella beetle to control
the invasive plant called purple loosestrife. Then several participants
made aspiration bottles for collecting the beetles, while others potted
four loosestrife plants that had been collected from the Reservation.
The youngest participant threw himself (literally) into his work.
