Nodding Smartweed, Polygonum lapathifolium
This year smartweeds at Fresh Pond are flowering in abundance, both on land and on the surface of Black's Nook. These native weeds are members of the Buckwheat Family. Smartweeds can be recognized by their spikes of tiny knoblike white or pink flowers and their jointed stems.
