Climacocystis borealis
These white bracket fungi were found growing on a hemlock stump on the top of Kingsley Park. This species of polypore grows only on living or dead conifers.

 


Pholiota squarrosoides
Sharp-scaly Pholiota

These common gilled mushrooms were growing on a log in the woods south of Little Fresh Pond. They appear in the fall, and only on deciduous wood.

 


Hypoxylon fragiforme

Beech Hypoxylon

Hundreds of these hard, tiny (about 1 cm.) fungi were found on a beech log on the Huron Avenue hillside. A 10x lens revealed tiny pimples, which are the openings through which spores are expelled
