Monarch Butterfly, Danaus plexxipus

This Monarch Butterfly can be identified as a male by the spot of dark scales in the center of the hind wings. These are scent glands. Females do not have the spots, and the black vein lines on their wings are thicker. It was found nectaring on coreopsis flowers near Little Fresh Pond.
