Purple Loosestrife Biocontrol Project
The Cambridge Water Department and Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation
are collaborating on a project using beetles to control the growth of
purple loosestrife on the Reservation. After the introductory talk,
top photo, led by Hannah Wilbur (seated with white sleeves) of the CWD
and Elizabeth Wylde (standing) from the Friends group, volunteers visited
a wetland near Little Fresh Pond where they recorded loosestrife density
and growth in test plots. This data will be used as a baseline for future
surveys after beetles are released in the area.
