Redbud, Cercis canadensis
This small tree is a member of the Pea Family, with flowers that resemble
sweetpeas in shape. They bloom early in the spring before their leaves
appear. This plant lost a large limb, visible and still alive on the
ground to the left. It is growing in the Old Meadow area, is being crowded
by Glossy Buckthorns, and may eventually be surrounded by them.
