"Lusitania Mountain" at Lusitania Field
What was for years a huge mound of poor soil topped by a small forest
of sumac, ailanthus, and weeds, is now a constantly changing pile of
topsoil. The soil is being sifted and amended to fit the growing needs
of plants that will be seeded and rooted in various habitats within
the Northeast Sector. Eventually the field will be turned into a wet
and dry meadow growing with native species, with meandering paths for
visitors.
