Nature Lives
A Winter Ecology Walk

Fungi and many-legged critters were the stars on this exploration to find actively growing or moving life forms in the midst of winter. Despite less-than ideal conditions for fungi, critters, and explorers (very cold, dry, and windy) eighteen hardy folks showed up. We recorded about 18 species of fungi, eight arthropods (beetles, centipedes, and millipedes) five birds, and three green plants. Here the group examines an Artist's Conch,
Ganoderma applanatum.
