Canada Geese at Black's Nook
These two Canada geese swam over to the photographer, apparently in
hope of receiving a handout. People on the Reservation are discouraged
from feeding waterfowl because it reduces the birds' fear, which leaves
them vulnerable to attack by dogs; it degrades their diet; and it encourages
the birds to stay at Fresh Pond, which is normally only a stopping place
on their migration north. Canada geese have become a nuisance in public
parks and gulf courses, reproducing rapidly, fouling the grass, and
sometimes attacking people.
