A Slime Mold, Stemonitis axifera
This minute fungus, about ½ inch tall, was found growing on a decomposing log in the woods near Black's Nook. The fruiting bodies of fungi take myriad forms ranging from the familiar mushrooms to branching structures, slimy blobs, and black varnish.
