Spiders, Insects, and Other Creepy Crawlers
Adults had as much fun as the children on this excursion in search of
insects and other small creatures. Before taking the group outside,
leaders Janet Kovner (purple top, left photo) and Susan Coolidge (blue
top, middle photo) described the differences between insects and spiders,
and between vertebrates and invertebrates. The grand finale of the program
was the discovery of this enormous (1 ½ inch) Reddish-brown Stag
Beetle, Lucanus capreolus, under a log in the woods atop Kingsley
Park hillside.
