Juneberry (aka Shadbush, Serviceberry )
Amalanchier canadensis
These fruits are infected with one of the fungi called Cedar Rust (Gymnosporangium
Spp). The fungus on alternate years affects the fruit of the Eastern
Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) and members of the Apple Family. The
latter includes apples, crabapples, hawthorns and shadbush, all members
of the Rose Family. The disease can also affect leaves of these trees,
and may be extremely harmful to them.
