Great Blue Heron
This rather small heron has been seen on the edge of Fresh Pond for almost a week. Great blue herons live on a diet of fish and other small aquatic organisms that venture into the shallow water where the herons wade. The steep banks of the Pond are not generally favored by great blues, but the small nearby ponds where the birds usually fish are frozen over.
