River Birch, Betula nigra
The delicate twigs and branches of river birches create a lacy pattern against the late afternoon sky. River birches are a native wetland species that can be found in many places around the shoreline of Fresh Pond. Note: there is a red-tailed hawk visible flying just above the tallest lefthand branches.
