Available for Occupation
These four bird boxes were designed for small cavity-nesters such as
chickadees, nuthatches, and wrens. They were assembled in the spring
of 2005 by participants in a Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation program,
and have been put up in various sites around the Reservation. We put
the boxes up in late fall before the ground freezes so that they are
in place when the birds begin looking for nesting sites in February
and March. After nesting season ends in August, we take them down, wash
and sanitize them, and store them. Residents so far have included house
wrens and tree swallows.
