Swamp Smartweed, Polygonum coccineum
The surface of Black's Nook is pink with several large islands of these aquatic plants. The leaves seem to be adapted to survive above and just below the water. There are many other species of smartweed at Fresh Pond Reservation with either pink or white flower heads that are either nodding or upright.
