Praying Mantis, Mantis religiosa
We found this enormous insect carnivore sitting on an ear of grass in the Kingsley Park bio-swale. It turned its triangular head to study the camera, but never moved until a wasp landed at its feet. Perhaps the mantis didn't consider such a well-defended creature to be a good meal: it reared back and the wasp flew away.
