The Case for Native Garden Plants

As participants in this Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation program rest in the shade of a young sugar maple, Acer saccharum, Ranger Jean Rogers describes its characteristics. Indoors we discussed the benefits and challenges of using native species in our gardens. The planting beds around the Cambridge Water Department buildings offered a variety of examples of native species, including this tree.
