Elder, Sambucus canadensis
These are elderberries, the tart native fruit from which wine and jam can be made. A number of berry-laden elders can be found along the sides of the bioswales in front of the Water Department. By winter most of the berries will have been eaten by birds such as robins and cedar waxwings.
