Shadbush, Juneberry, Service Berry
Amelanchier canadensis
The many names of this native fruit tree are an indication of the time
when it produces fruit: when shad are running, in June, during wedding
season. The sweet berries are a favorite treat for birds such as robins
and cedar waxwings. They are also a delicious snack for humans. They
have never been used commercially because they are delicate and do not
last very long.
