A Nesting Box for Small Birds at Black's Nook
Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation offered family programs in 2004 and
2005 during which participants assembled wooden nesting boxes for cavity-nesting
birds. Four boxes for tree swallow, built in March of 2004, had successful
broods in 2004 and 2005. This year, because of the construction, the
three boxes that had been situated near Little Fresh Pond were moved
to the Weir Meadow and the bioswale at Kingsley Park. The four boxes
for chickadees and other tiny birds were moved from behind Neville place
to Black's Nook, the Kingsley bioswale, and, and the upper Weir Meadow.
If you see bird activity at any of these boxes, please report your sighting
to Ranger Jean Rogers at 617-349-4793 or Elizabeth Wylde at friendsoffreshpond@yahoo.com
