Wildflowers in Winter

The Winter Weed Finder by Dorcas Miller helped participants in this Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation program identify wildflowers by their dried seedheads and pods. We identified the following plants:

1. Aster, Heath - Aster pilosus
2. Aster, Small White - Aster vimineus
3. Butter-and-eggs - Linaria vulgaris
4. Chicory - Cichorium intybus
5. Cinquefoil (probably Rough-fruited) - Potentilla recta
6. Clover, White Sweet - Melilotus alba
7. Dock, Curly - Rumex crispus
8. Evening Primrose, Common - Oenothera biennis
9. Everlasting, Sweet - Gnaphalium obtusifolium
10. Goldenrod, Lance-leaved - Solidago graminifolia
11. Goldenrod, Rough-stemmed - Solidago rugosa
12. Jimson Weed - Datura stramonium
13. Milkweed, Common - Asclepias syriaca
14. Mullein, Common - Verbascum thapsis
15. Mustard, Garlic - Allaria petiolata
16. Peppergrass, Wild - Lipidium virginicume
17. Plantain, Common - Plantago major
18. Plantain, English (Narrow-leaved) - Plantago lanceolata
19. Queen Anne's Lace - Daucus carota
20. St. Johnswort - Hypericum perforatum
21. Tansy - Tanacetum vulgare
22. Thistle, Bull - Cirisium vulgare
23. Pigweed, Lambs Quarters - Chenopodium album
