Ruddy Duck (Female)
These small diving ducks stop at Fresh Pond to rest and eat during fall
migration. Their destination is the southeast coast of the United States
or the Gulf of Mexico. They are easily recognized by their white cheeks
(the cheeks of the male being much whiter than those of the female)
and their upturned tails.
This photo was
taken by Jason Sandler of Franklin, Massachusetts. His bird list for
the day is posted on the Bird
Sightings page.
