American Larch, Larix decidua
The yellow needles on this small larch may lead people to think that it is sick or dying, but in fact the tree is simply shedding its needles just as many broadleaf trees shed their leaves. The green needle-bearing tree on the left is also a larch that has not yet begun to turn yellow.
