Water Department Bioswale

This stretch of land between the Water Department parking lot and Fresh Pond Parkway serves as a water drainage and filtering site for both the parking lot and the highway. After seeping through the soil and roots of plants, the water is channeled underground to the Little River near the Alewife T Station. After it was built, the swale was seeded with native wetland plants, many of which are beautiful and easy to observe.
