A Winter Tree
          Walkabout
          February 20, 2005
This walk on the golf course at Fresh Pond Reservation
gave participants an opportunity to get up close and
personal with eleven "specimen trees" (trees that are
characteristic of their species.) This young Pin Oak,
Quercus palustrus, has the typical single dominant trunk,
upper branches pointing upward, middle branches pointing
sideways, and lower branches pointing down, as well as
the tendency to hold on to its leaves during the winter.
