Redheads, Aythya
americana
Local birders consider it a treat to see one or two of these handsome
birds among a flock of their similar looking cousins, the Canvasbacks
(Aythya valisineria). Today on Fresh Pond near Little Fresh Pond
the redheads outnumbered the canvasbacks 10 to 6, a rare sight, indeed.
Pictured are three males and one female.
