Little Blue Stem (Schizachyrum scoparium)

This is an extremely hardy deciduous prairie grass that grows in clumps and flowers in late summer. Its extensive root system holds soil well, thus making it a good candidate for erosion control. In the fall the foliage turns a flaming orange. This clump is growing among others in an area near the Pond, across the Perimeter Road from the Water Department Building.
