Bull Thistle (Cirisium vulgare)
The handsome flower of this very prickly plant will soon turn brown and produce a large number of seeds that are a favorite food of goldfinches. Availability of food seems to be related to the fact that these small yellow and black birds lay their eggs later in the season than any other locally breeding bird.
